The sound of eater can't be described in a single word, as the copy of the previous work, "Eat the current sound from click house to hip hop, endlessly". IDM, electronica, ambience, click, techno, funk, rock, ... Those elements are words necessary to express eater, but not all ... And the eater sound is a bedroom sound and a dance track.
Eater, an own project of Osaka-based artist Koki Kagawa, started his activities in 2000.
A decade ago, in 1993, he started his career in music production as a bassist in a grunge-style band. After the band disbanded, he felt the potential of driven music and explored new musicality. Formed the band Psycho Baba to explore a new approach to music. While doing live mixing, sampler, effects and doing free form activities himself, he expanded his musical range by participating in Yamataka Eye's label, compilation from Shock City, participating in `` Shockcity Shockers '' Go. After about two years of band activity, he resumed his personal activities again. He started a full-fledged solo activity under the name of Eater. In April 2002, he participated in the compilation "VA / strange flowers vol.1" from Daisyworld disc, a label sponsored by Haruomi Hosono. He appealed his qualities and released the first album <quadraphonic> in 2003. The free-form sound that comes out under such precise injections quickly gained attention as a talented artist in the Japanese electronic scene at that time. And in 2005 he released his second album "KERR" and showed a wonderful attitude of rising to a higher level. It is new to remember that the floor sound using its unique cut-up method has given us a fresh impression not only in the bedroom sound.
The third album, "sunn", will be released from Progressive Form, which has been releasing 12-inch singles since the beginning of activities under the name of eater.
The eater was one of the artists who appeared in the Japanese floor sound scene after post-electronica and was one of the first artists to feel originality. From the time of the debut, I remember that heavyweights in the current click techno music scene, such as Richie Houtin and Ricardo Villalobos, had the opportunity to come into contact with his sound next day and appreciated his talent. .
The goodness of the sound produced by the eater is, of course, where the sense of balance is outstanding.
The stoic and artistic tracks, spun with built-in rhythms and delicate electronic sounds, are dense, but not overkill, with eater-specific reservoirs and omissions. Furthermore, the melody lines that come on top of it are magnificent, but some tracks still have a light sensation, and some even have a pastoral humor. Glitchy electronica of electronic sounds can be entangled with fusion-like guitar work in a fusion-like manner, voice-performing battles with excellent sense cut-ups, and even breakthrough drumming that accelerates not only overtones The jazz and bluesy DNA engraved on it are expressed with various expressions. These various elements insist on each other so as not to think of it as a personal project, and are spatially processed by an exquisite sense of balance to provide a truly cozy space. He has roots in funk and progressive rock, etc., his technique polished through repeated sessions, and his arranging ability because of his experience in the band and his own playing ability as a creator is the eater's sound. It's a decisive factor.
Although he may dislike it, the refined image is further enhanced to make a wonderfully nice album.

He also participated as an arranger in a song written by Tei Towa in Hitoshi Matsumoto's first directorial work, "Great Japanese".
