この国で生まれたビートとベースラインの濃密なるコスモロジーは、いとも簡単に10年の時を超えてしまった。FLYING LOTUSのマスタリングなども手がける、LAのLOW END THEORY主宰のDADDY KEV。はるか10年前に生み出されたINDOPEPSYCHICSのビートが、彼の魔法のようなリマスタリングで、その表情を少しばかり変えた。そう、表情をほんの少し変えただけだ。それなのに、そのサウンドは、いま現在進行形のビート・サウンド＝ポスト・ダブステップ以降のベース・ミュージックにも、いとも簡単に接続してしまっているかのようですらある。いや、もちろん、次々と生まれては、そのサウンドだけを残して消えてしまうカテゴリーに当てはめることがいかにバカバカしいかを、身をもって証明しているサウンドでもある。 text by 河村 祐介

90年代後半から00年代初頭にかけては、音楽に新しい流れがいろいろ生まれ、変動や変革の時だった。DJ Kensei、nik、D.O.I.のプロダクション・チームIndopepsychicsの活動は、まさにその時代と並走していた。短くも濃密な時間の中で、彼らは次々と制作を手がけ、驚くべき変化を遂げていった。そのスピード感たるや、移り気なジャンルのトレンドすら置き去りにするほどで、その結果、ヒップホップからエレクトロニカ／音響的な世界まで突入していった軌跡は時代を象徴してもいた。そして、彼らは変化の後の時代を察知するように、2枚のアルバムを残して潔く霧散した。あれから10年近くの歳月が経ち、Indopepsychicsの音源がいま蘇る。未発表トラックも含めた11曲が選ばれ、2011年の耳でマスタリングをし直されるのだ（その任にあたるのはなんとDaddy Kevだ）。Indopepsychicsのヒップホップ的な勘は相変わらず鋭く、前を向いて突っ走っていった時代の音源の価値を再発見するタイミングを逃さない。これは、10年前を知るリスナーにも、新たなリスナーにも、等しく新鮮でこの上なく刺激的なアルバムである。 text by 原 雅明
